I've been seeing a lot of accordion pleat skirts in magazines and stores lately. After a few seasons of slim sexy skirts it makes sense that the pendulum-swinging response would be a style that is loose and feminine.
A great over-40 silhouette (fitted over loose) would be to pair this with a snug sweater top, like a mock turtleneck.

The 60s mod style is a natural trend for the over 40 woman to follow because most of the elements are so slimming and easy to wear. Black pants and black tights are already wardrobe staples---add a few geometric prints, some bold colors---and voila! Instant style.
