The last entry in the Lucky Magazine series of wardrobe alternatives is a black trim button down instead of the plain white button downs we've all had since high school...which of course, was only twenty years years ago. ;-)
Alternative #10: Black trim blouses

posted by Jo Frances on August 19, 2012 3:33 pmHere's what I'd wear to the back-to-school events coming up. It pairs well with jeans, black slacks, a gray pencil skirt---and I can wear it alone or with a jacket or sweater. Extra bonus? The cut is forgiving enough that whether I'm having a "fat" day or not, nothing will bind or gap.

How to wear a tunic top
posted by Jo Frances on May 15, 2012 6:48 amOne of the things that can age a woman is wearing a style silhouette that is dated. Nothing says "my best style years were in the 90s" than a closetful of boot cut jeans with no variation. A skinny fitted pant in a bright color may seem like going to the other extreme, but sometimes we all need a nudge towards the middle...and comfortable tunic tops may just be the incentive.
A blouse wardrobe--- nothing over $50
posted by Jo Frances on January 24, 2012 10:33 amThe one thing I can never have too many of---blouses and tops! I don't know why, but when I'm out shopping, I never think of shopping for blouses. I have the requisite amount of white button front blouses and black turtlenecks, but whenever I want a "cute" top, I never seem to have one. This selection would be a good start: nothing is too casual, and everything can be paired with jeans or a work skirt.
The ideal blouse wardrobe
posted by Jo Frances on July 22, 2011 12:38 pmFor me, the biggest challenge to putting outfits together is in finding tops that go with what I'm wearing. Jeans, trousers, jeggings, capris, skirts---it can be tricky to find the right proportions.
Below, is my ideal blouse wardrobe for warmer weather. The tops are in basic silhouettes that are loose enough to keep you cool, and fitted enough to be flattering. All are under $50.
The perfect dressy top for summer
posted by Jo Frances on June 19, 2011 8:45 amPaired with a black pencil skirt, this top would be great for meetings, or an evening reception. With a looser, lighter colored skirt it would work for daytime events, and worn with capri pants and sandals, it's ideal for travel. But what really makes it perfect is the price---it's currently on sale for $59.50! Add hoop or chandelier earrings and an armful of bracelets to accessorize.
Must Have #4: Striped Top

Striped tops will be everywhere this Spring. The most flattering and classic way to wear this trend is with thin stripes. However, there are so many styles and colors available that it may be worth it to try a bolder look---which you can then tone done with the #1 Must-Have, a black blazer.
