Just when you find a brand you like, the fit will change, your tastes will change---something will happen and you'll have to start all over again.
A good place to begin your search is with manufacturers that design with women, and not junior sizes, in mind. These brands will usually have a higher rise, have a little more give in the fabric and come in darker rinses, like the three shown here:

What a difference the color shade makes! Imagine this same outfit; but with light blue jeans and a baby pink shirt...ok, it's Cindy Crawford and she would still look great, but perhaps not as trendy and chic as she does here.
If you don't have a pair of jeans this dark, black denim could also work, and a blouse with deep tones (navy, burgundy, moss green) to pair it with.

A quick way to update your look is to choose a newer silhouette. Straight leg and boot cut jeans are wardrobe essentials---for good reason. Boot cut jeans, especially, are flattering and slimming. But instead of buying your third (tenth?) pair of bootcuts, how about trying flared, trouser or skinny styles instead?

posted by Jo Frances on February 7, 2011 1:29 amI love these jeans. They are just the right shade of dark blue, and the trouser cut makes them a little dressier than your typical pair of Levi's. The Limited is not typically a store where forty-plus women can find a lot of things (unlike J. Jill or White House) but these pants are worth a look.
