Favorite Looks from the Golden Globes

posted by Jo Frances on January 15, 2012 7:59 pm

These actresses show that looking great is ageless. Yes, they are all over 40, but this is only noteworthy precisely because they aren't trying to look like someone in their 20s. Thanks for the inspiration, ladies!

Ali Larter's Look for Less

posted by Jo Frances on January 4, 2012 9:38 am

There's so much to like about this outfit---starting with the fact that it answers the question, "what goes with a burgundy purse?" There are also the subtle details like a shawl collared sweater and platform booties and the retro/preppy detail of a pearl necklace. But in keeping with the theme of how to mix color in previous posts, what's noteworthy is how the colors are distinct from each other, yet somehow all seem to match.

Cindy Crawford's jeans look

What a difference the color shade makes! Imagine this same outfit; but with light blue jeans and a baby pink shirt...ok, it's Cindy Crawford and she would still look great, but perhaps not as trendy and chic as she does here.

If you don't have a pair of jeans this dark, black denim could also work, and a blouse with deep tones (navy, burgundy, moss green) to pair it with.

Reese Witherspoon's premiere dress

Reese Witherspoon wears a Jason Wu dress to the "Like Water for Elephants" premiere. This look is a fresh take on the LBD, and copies are bound to be everywhere soon. For now, only a few designers (and a handful of mass market brands) have similar styles.

Jennifer Anniston's Wedge Sandals

posted by Jo Frances on April 18, 2011 11:54 am

Last year, pictures of Jennifer Anniston wearing her "Alex" Stuart Weitzman sandals were everywhere, causing the shoes to sell out quickly.

I don't think it was necessarily the shoes, but how amazing she looked, wearing a simple white tee and baggy khakis. At 40. (!)

Anyway, the pictures don't really give you a sense of how high the wedges are. At four-and-a-half inches, they are really tall, and not very practical, especially at $365.

This year, Stuart Weitzman re-issued the shoe in a lower (2 1/2 inch) height. The original is still available, and it looks like it will be just as popular as ever. I'm showing a variety of sites to get the shoes since I've noticed that some sizes are already selling out. There are also a few look alikes that are priced a lot less:
