When the answer to "Should I wear sweatpants?" is still no, the next best thing is a sweatshirt dress. This dress is like a longer, dressed up version of a sweatshirt.

posted by Jo Frances on February 24, 2012 7:57 pmFor all the weddings, graduations and Easter events coming up, this dress is a perfect backdrop. The fabric (silk) adds formality while the color (no more LBD's during the day---please!) adds an appropriate festive note.
Thin Dresses

The New York Times Magazine calls the sheath dress with contrasting panels a "thin dress" because it creates an optical illusion of slimming you. I just like this style because of it's bold, mod design:

posted by Jo Frances on February 6, 2012 1:20 pmThis GAP dress is just the type of staple that's perfect for summer, but the stores never seem to have in stock after April. At only $54.95 it will really go quickly, regardless of the season.
My new favorite UK retailer
posted by Jo Frances on January 25, 2012 11:02 amI fall in love with foreign labels on a regular basis. I brought back a suitcase full of clothes from Marks and Spencer in London (decades ago when the dollar was strong) and I once spent one day of a two day trip to New York at H&M. This was when there was only one store in the country, instead of in every mall like today. Zara, Topshop---I've had flings with them too. I know they are mass market brands, but with a non-US label, you still get a unique, cosmopolitan look---at GAP prices!
My latest fave is Dorothy Perkins, a UK based retailer. They've been around for a long time, but I've only recently discovered that I can order clothes online, and the $10 shipping makes then equal to ordering anything domestically. Here's an example of their feminine style:
New Year's Eve idea: Tuxedo dresses

posted by Jo Frances on December 26, 2011 3:14 pmWhen thinking about a color that goes with anything, green wouldn't be the first color to come to mind. But an olive green shade is surprisingly neutral, and can be paired with both black and brown color palettes.
An ideal evening dress
posted by Jo Frances on December 13, 2011 9:46 amThis dress would be great for nearly any evening event. It's fashionable but age appropriate, it's a designer dress (Helmut Lang, on sale), and made from a satin-jersey fabric so it's dressy without satin's stiff feel. I can also appreciate the strategic draping on the waist and hips! It's at the Outnet now in limited sizes.
