Scarves under $10

posted by Jo Frances on May 14, 2012 7:40 pm

Wearing a scarf is fun. You can experiment with colors and prints, with lengths and styles. It's also a way to finish an outfit---a scarf makes a business casual outfit look interview ready, and tee shirt/jeans look chic.

Statement necklaces

posted by Jo Frances on March 27, 2012 6:42 am

I'm a tall person. I have long hair. But for years I shied away from big statement necklaces, mistakenly thinking that they would be too much: too attention getting, too flashy. It took only a minute in front of a mirror in a department store, when I was killing time trying on necklaces while waiting for a friend to realize that big necklaces actually looked good. They either balance out your outfit, or your hair, or your, ahem, boobs. Or they make your outfit finished. As millions of Parisian and New York women have already discovered, they make a t-shirt and jeans combo look great.

The equestrian look: accessories

posted by Jo Frances on March 19, 2012 4:44 pm

I like the equestrian trend for women over 40 because unlike other recent trends (Hippie Chic, anyone?) you won't look like you're stuck in a time capsule, or as though you're trying too hard (the Dominatrix trend comes to mind). No, the equestrian trend is classy, timeless, and finished---kind of like Jackie O on a Fall weekend. Tomorrow I'll delve deeper into the pieces, but today is all about the accessories:

Chandelier earrings and plate sized hoops add that sexy finishing touch to evening outfits. But for day, these pretty studs provide lots of options for dressing up your ears as well.

Head to toe logo

posted by Jo Frances on January 16, 2012 7:08 am

I still remember wanting a pair of Chanel Double-C stud earrings in my twenties...that is, until the day I saw a woman wearing a HUGE gold pair, encrusted with "diamonds", clearly fake...except I don't think the wearer even knew, or cared, about the real thing.

Recently, when I saw a small pair of earrings emblazoned with "Marc Jacobs" on them, I was reminded that the more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm not sure if the designer was referencing the same era, but these choices are a fun, sardonic, and clearly more authentic way to wear a logo.

A statement necklace, shoes with a twist---a single item is sometimes all you need to refresh a winter wardrobe.

Vegan purses

posted by Jo Frances on December 8, 2011 12:16 pm

While vegans may already be aware that there are lots of handbag options for them, the rest of us will be pleasantly surprised. I admit, I still have images of those terrible synthetic "pleather" jackets from my clubbing days whenever I think of vegan products, but as these purses show, things have definitely changed.
